Are you feeling just as burned out as I am right now? It seems like my mojo went on vacation and decided not to return.

When this happens (not the first time, ya know?), I look for inspiration in the words of others. I search online for the pep talk – the “go get ’em!” words – that I need to restore my focus and energy level.

Here are 10 powerful quotes that are helping me get my balance back. If you need a little help right now, too, they might inspire you in the same way.

To create these 10 images, I used the premium version of the WordSwag smartphone app ($3.99). It’s available in both iOS and Android versions.

I used the app exclusively for these, searching WordSwag’s extensive database of images to find one with just the right mood or setting for each quote. It’s a versatile, easy-to-use tool for creating image quotes to share on social media or elsewhere.

  1. Thanks,Sandra! Just emerging from burn out myself, so I appreciate your peppy quotes to keep my momentum. Glad you are back at it, too.

  2. Great quotes–the inspiration I needed to start creating the graphics I’ve had on the pipeline for a while. Thank you.

Your graphics lead me to a question that’s been bugging me… Many experts recommend that you stick to your brand colors and fonts, which I find limiting and yes, boring! I see that you have a broad variety tied together with your logo. Should I ditch the boring advice and follow my heart and your example?

    1. What a great question, Sonia! I think the answer is “it depends.” If you’re sharing a testimonial for your book from a reader or an influencer, I’d probably stick with cover branding in some way (I’ve got examples from best-sellers here: https://buildbookbuzz.com/create-book-promotion-quote-graphics/).

For inspirational, motivational, etc. quotes, I recommend the approach I’ve used here. The photos will grab people’s attention — which is exactly what you want with something like this. But do add a logo so if the images are shared, there’s a connection to you as the source.

Related to this but not part of your question and something I know you wouldn’t do but others might consider…I strongly advise against quoting yourself. It’s arrogant (never an attractive trait). Leave it to others — your followers, fans, whatever — to decide what is important and memorable enough from your presentations or books or posts to share.

Go with your heart, Sonia! Your instincts are always good.

  3. HI Sandy. I like it when strong people admit to slumps. Those of us who follow you can already see you out the other side ridin’ high.

My go-to for funk-removal is to eat cleaner, move more, and sleep more. Changing brain chemistry only takes about half a day. (When I eat sugar/carbs more than 1-2 days in a row, my mojo rebels.)

I have a mammoth quote collection (maybe 600+ quotes) that I’ll shorten and publish eventually, including some from my arrogant self and my wise dad. I grabbed a few for you from a random page:

“You need not do anything. Remain sitting at your table and listen, and you need not even listen, just wait, and you need not even wait, just become quiet, still, and solitary, and the world will offer itself to you to be unmasked; it has no choice. It will roll in ecstasy at your feet.” -Franz Kafka

“It’s the same boiling water that softens a potato that hardens an egg. It’s not the surroundings, it’s what’s inside you that counts.” Charlie Ward

    TWO WOLVES:

“My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all,” the old Cherokee told his grandson. “One is Evil—it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is Good—it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

    1. Wendy, you are truly THE BEST. The. Best. I appreciate your advice and support and I looooove the quotes, especially TWO WOLVES. So powerful. (And your “mindset” statement made me laugh!) Thank you, thank you, thank you.
