How to pin a tweet
As soon as I pinned a tweet about one of my most popular blog posts to the top of my Twitter profile, the tweet started getting more retweets. That, in turn, helped bring more traffic to my website because the tweet included a link to the post on my site.
It was an easy way to help followers find helpful information quickly while introducing people to this website.
Great idea, right?
Here’s a quick video showing you how to pin a Tweet to the top of your Twitter profile page.
Here’s how
Here are the instructions for those who don’t want to watch the video.
- On your Twitter page, find or create the tweet that you’d like to pin to the top.
- At the bottom of the tweet, click on the three horizontal dots.
- In the drop down menu, select “Pin to your profile page.”
- Select “Pin” in the pop-up window to confirm.
- Refresh your page or select “view now” in the message on your screen to see your pinned post in large type at the top of your list of tweets.
It’s that easy.
Check your site analytics later to see if pinning the tweet has brought more traffic to the page you’ve linked to in your tweet. Experiment with the tweets you pin to see which one seems to resonate the most with people who view your Twitter page.

The drop down menu on my page doesn’t have that option. Do you know why?
Maybe you need to scroll down a bit to see it?

This does not work for me. The three horizontal dots do not give me a drop down menu. Anyone else have the same problem?
Michael, Twitter has changed in the four years since I wrote this post. To pin a tweet now, click on the down arrow in the upper right corner to get the drop down menu. Select “Pin to your profile page.”

So easy. Thank you.
