How to use e-mail to transfer a book to your Kindle

Have you ever needed to transfer a book to your Kindle?

I had to figure out how to do that recently when I was e-mailed a couple of e-books to review. The solution wasn’t what I expected, but it was still easy.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Find your Kindle e-mail address.

To do that, login to your Amazon account. Select the down arrow next to “Your Account” in the upper right, and then select “Manage Your Content and Devices.”

Sign in again if prompted.

There are three options under the headline “Manage Your Content and Devices.” Select “Settings” on the far right.

Settings

Scroll down to “Personal Document Settings.” You’ll see your Kindle address under “E-mail address.”

2. Forward the e-mail with the .mobi file attached to your Kindle address.

While you’re at it, save that Kindle address in your e-mail address book because you’ll probably need it again.

3. Wait a few minutes, then turn on your Kindle.

The book you sent will be waiting for you on the main screen. (If it isn’t, sync your Kindle.)

Not too hard, eh?

  1. It’s easy to do a PDF as well. I narrate audio books and often get the manuscript as a PDF which I then attach to an email and send to my Kindle address. Just put the word ‘convert’ in the subject line (only convert, nothing else or it may mess it up) and you will then be able to change font size on Kindle as usual. Occasional errors may occur in the text but usually not enough to worry about
